Improve your memory!

Although future medical advancements will hopefully find a cure for Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, most folks will be left to fend for themselves. So, to keep your mind and memory sharper than the rest, below is a short list of secret memory enhancers

Believe it or not, chewing gum can actually improve alertness and memory. At least that’s the conclusion that two medical studies reported in the journal Appetite back in 2002 and 2004, respectively. Although the exact reasoning behind why gum would enhance memory isn’t yet clear, one simple explanation said that chewing gum increases heart rate, which subsequently increases blood flow to the brain.

A slew of research over the past decade has confidently shown that exercise can be a secret memory enhancer. In fact, just cutting calories may help you remember where you left your keys. According to a 2008 study in the journal PNAS, eating a calorie-restricted diet had beneficial effects on memory performance in healthy elderly subjects. Even a simple exercise is a better secret memory enhancer than none at all. Better yet, it’s free.

As one of the most hotly contested food items, caffeine has strong backers on both sides of the health debate. Some swear by its benefits while others vilify caffeine for its unhealthy effects. However, almost no one can argue the effect of caffeine on alertness (and consequently memory). According to various studies conducted in the last five years, caffeine boosts short-term memory, protects older women against memory loss and may even reverse Alzheimer’s memory loss (at least in mice).

Daytime naps

Our next secret memory enhancer might actually contradict the last. After all, it’ll be hard to catch a little daytime shut-eye if you’re all hopped up on java beans. If you’re into daydreaming, you’ll be happy to know that science strongly supports the idea that daytime napping improves your declarative memory. That’s the memory you use to store facts (for example, the memory used when cramming for a final exam).

Rounding off our list of secret memory enhancers is alcohol, a substance that men are probably familiar with. Although this list is sounding more and more like justification for a bunch of bad habits, alcohol make that moderate levels of alcohol may actually enhance memory. Recent research has found that having a daily drink or two may improve memory and may even help prevent dementia. However, higher levels of alcohol may actually impair memories or may even reinforce negative ones!

Dormvault laptop safe

Not every roommate is trustworthy so just face it, your roommate is nice enough. Seems he or she just eats his o her food, and doesn't touch your stuff. But do you really trust him with everything? Would you trust him with your laptop, wallet and your phone? To some, laptop is the entire life! It's got all your papers on it, your music maybe even pictures of you and your girlfriend naked!

Some people put their trust on the cable-lock which seems to be adequate to secure laptop, but not only can those things just be clipped off with a cheap bolt-cutter, someone can still turn on and use your laptop without even removing it! We couldn’t call that as security. What you require is some serious shield. Something that can protect your lappy down, keeping it physically protected from thievery hands, as well as potential data-thieves.

Look what we found, it is so simple and yet totally ingenious. A big metal box with a lock (simple), that bolts to your dorm-furniture from the inside (ingenious)! With the lid closed and locked, the wing-nuts that hold the vault in place get locked in with your valuables. It's one of those "gah, I wish I had thought of that" things.

This box is big enough to hold a 17" laptop and accessories; you could even place a portable drive or two in there, your phone - even your wallet if you were so inclined, this box comes with comes with mounting brackets, multiple-size bolts, wingnuts and combination lock. Now you don't have to worry about whether or not your roommate is trustworthy. As they say, good locks make good neighbors, this one will help you earn this!

09 September 2009 09/09/09Almost everyone from brides and grooms to movie studio execs are having fun the upcoming 090909 anomaly in their own approach.

As reported, in Florida, at least one county clerk's office is offering a one-day wedding special for $99.99. The unusual of this Sept. 9 hasn't been lost on the creators of the iPod, who have moved their traditional Tuesday release day to Wednesday to take advantage of the special date of the 999. Focus Features is releasing their new film "9 ," an animated tale about the apocalypse , on the 9th.

Besides the date look excellent in marketing promotions, it also represents the last set of repeating, single-digit dates that we'll see for almost a century (until January 1, 2101), or a millennium (mark your calendars for January 1, 3001), depending on how you want to count it. So, any special plans this 090909?
